Top Sport in front of a beautiful fortress scenery: the Hardenberg Fortress Show

This show has both class and tradition: the Hardenberg Fortress Show! For over 50 years now, the global elite of showjumping has been coming to the old fortress ruins of Nörten-Hardenberg located in the German state of "Niedersaschsen"
As the riders compete for the legendary golden whip, the course designers give their all - after all, the trophy is one of the most coveted in the showjumping world. From June 18th to 21st, 2009, Olympic medallists, World and European champions will be competing before what is certainly one of the most splendid scenic backdrops in showjumping. The family of the Count Carl von Hardenberg and the entire team manage to put on a wonderful show there year after year.
The Hardenberg Burgturnier, as it is called in German, offers great sport at highest level: it is a leg of the Masters League as well as of the newly created Young Masters League that works together with the organizers of the European Youngster Cup U25. Spectators, breeders and horse fans will also be offered another special highlight: the Material Horses Championship of the Hannoverian Breeding Association at Braunschweig is the opening event. Further, there are some 40 fillies and colts, which had had to qualify, competing for their premium prizes under the watchful eyes of some top expert judges.

An annual entertainment highlight, as always, will be the grand fireworks of Saturday evening, which is always good for countless Ahs and Ohs. For the first time this year, visitors will be able to enjoy the unique combination of showjumping and the Hardenberg Klassika Fair, a trade fair for garden architecture and lifestyle held in a stylish but familiar setting on the same grounds. In the midst of the romantic castle gardens, exhibitors present beautiful objects from the areas of garden architecture, living culture and lifestyle.

Top level showjumping, a quality trade show that invites strolling, and an exciting entertainment program: these are just some of the many highlights of the 2009 Hardenberg Burgturnier!

Saturday evening, the guests were able to enjoy the so-called Gotha night, which was a splendid mix of show and sport. Among the highlights was an international S jumping class as part of the Young Masters League/EYCUP. Schwerte-based rider Gerrit Schepers delivered a splendid performance in the saddle on his Hannoverian gelding Rubin Ramazotti when he won the jump-off and thus gained his entry ticker for the finals at Frankfurt later this year. The 20 year old member of the German army trains with Lars Meyer zu Bexten and he beamed after his win: "This course was very challenging indeed. I had managed to get some good results on the other two days and so I had a good feeling when I rode in." Prior to the jump-off, his trainer told him: "Give it your all!". Gerrit Shepers grinned: "And this is what I did!"

Course designer Frank Rothenberger describes the challenging course in more detail: " To the U 25 riders, this class was supposed to be their Grand Prix and we designed it accordingly. They had their best horses here and I wanted to give them a good run for their money. Hence, the Young Masters/EY Cup competition, as far as distances and routes to be taken went, was certainly somewhat easier to ride than the subsequent Gotha Trophy."

Carl Graf von Hardenberg looked back on the 4 days of his show with a positive attitude: "By uniting Klassika and show, we have recreated ourselves, so to say. This step has turned out to be absolutely correct. We don't want to grow any larger than this because we do not wish to lose our cosy atmosphere. Saturday evening, especially, was a great combination of show and sport. I don't think you could wish for it to have been any better."

19/06/2009: S*, Jumping 1,40m

34 horse and rider pairs had then turned out on Friday to compete in the S* class (1.40 meters) as part of the European Youngster Cup / Young Masters League. Going clear, at 51.00 secs., Peer Zielke in the saddle of Coquin Chandial finally won out. 2nd place went to Alexander Kern on Caribo (also clear with 51.33 secs).

The winner of the previous day's preliminary qualifier, Gerrit Schepers, rode Rubin Ramazotti to 3rd place (52.07 secs).

18/06/2009: Preliminary qualifier

Thursday evening, as part of the Burgturnier NH, the preliminary qualifier for the European Youngster Cup U25 was held in conjunction with the Young Masters League. In the end, of 34 competing horse and rider pairs, it was Gerrit Schepers and his mount Rubin Ramazotti who made the race for first place. Going clear and coming in with a splendid time of 52.19 Sec, he was faster than Daniel Oppermann (also clear, 53.31 sec) on Champus Z and the third-placed rider, Maximilian Ziegler on Kisby with 54.10 sec.
